International House Sydney Teacher Training and Professional Centre has monthly intakes for the full time CELTA course. During the course, teachers study communicative teaching methodology; they observe teachers in action and get practical help to develop their teaching. Best of all they get valuable experience working with real classes of ESL students. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about other cultures and make a difference while they are here in Australia. People who have this very widely recognised TESOL qualification are qualified to teach ESL all around the world. Students can get the CELTA in four weeks full time or twelve weeks part time. The timeframe makes it very appealing to people with a native speaker level of English who are in Sydney on holiday. Many American and Canadian travellers take a break in Sydney before they continue their travels. Most countries in Asia and beyond have thriving ESL industries. ESL schools need to recruit qualified English speaking teachers. The pay and conditions can be very appealing: as well as paying a decent local wage, employers often offer financial assistance with flights and accommodation. When the CELTA graduates leave Australia they will be well equipped to begin a travelling and teaching career.
